22-year-old man detained for murder of Bangladeshi student in Larnaca

A 22-year-old man from Bangladesh has been remanded in custody for eight days following the discovery of the body of 22-year-old student Shahruar Ahmed Emon in Kofinou, Larnaca. The victim, who had been missing since June 11, was found in a state of decomposition. A post-mortem examination by forensic pathologist Dr. Nicolas Charalambous determined that the cause of death was five stab wounds and strangulation. The suspect allegedly met the victim on a bus on June 7 and lured him to Kofinou under the pretense of offering him a job. After the murder, the perpetrator sent ransom messages from the victim’s phone to his father, demanding 35,000 euros. The suspect faces multiple charges, including premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, kidnapping, extortion, and illegal stay in the Republic. During interrogation, the suspect claimed the conflict arose after the victim insulted him during their initial meeting. Investigations are being conducted by the Larnaca Criminal Investigation Department.
