UN envoy María Ángela Holguín reschedules Brussels meetings to July
United Nations Secretary-General's personal envoy for Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín, has postponed her planned visit to Brussels. Originally intended to discuss EU cooperation on the Cyprus problem, her meetings with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are now scheduled for July 13. This delay is attributed to the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, taking place July 7-8, where European officials are expected to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The scheduling change has also affected the timeline for Holguín's return to Cyprus to engage with the two community leaders. Discussions are focused on organizing an informal 5+1 meeting, potentially late July or early August. While Nicosia advocates for greater EU involvement, reports suggest shifting dynamics regarding how EU institutions contribute to the process. Holguín remains under the guidance of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to move negotiations forward.
