Mauro Camoranesi takes charge of AEK Larnaca

Mauro Camoranesi has been officially appointed as the new head coach of AEK Larnaca. The Argentine-Italian coach, selected by technical director Xavi Roca, held his first training session with the squad in late June 2026. This appointment marks a significant departure from Roca's traditional preference for Spanish coaches, representing a shift in the team's strategic philosophy. Camoranesi emphasized the need for consistency, attention to detail, and a focus on youth to make the team competitive. AEK is currently preparing for their upcoming UEFA Conference League second qualifying round match against Beitar, scheduled for July 23 in Larnaca, with the return leg in Ploiesti, Romania, on July 30. During his presentation, Camoranesi stated that the offer from a club like AEK was an easy decision to make. Technical director Xavi Roca expressed his full confidence in the new coach, aiming for high competitiveness from the start of the season. The club has also finalized its medical evaluations and is active in the transfer market, including the agreement with defender Mike van der Hoorn.
