Nicosia road improvement works causing traffic disruptions
Nicosia Municipality has launched infrastructure upgrades on Kritis and Filippiados streets as part of a project funded by the EU's NextGenerationEU recovery plan. The works, which began on June 19, 2026, are expected to last approximately two months, with completion scheduled for August 11, 2026. The project includes stormwater drainage, road resurfacing, and improved accessibility. These closures have led to significant traffic congestion and parking difficulties for residents and business owners in the center. Additional roadworks are scheduled elsewhere, including maintenance on the Limassol-Paphos highway on June 27, 2026, and works on Ammoxostou Avenue on the same day. Construction is also taking place on Konstantinoupoleos Street in Strovolos on June 27, 2026, between 7:00 and 19:00. Drivers are advised to follow temporary signage and diversions to avoid delays in these affected areas. Authorities have emphasized that these upgrades aim to improve long-term road safety and urban functionality.
