European Transport Safety Council releases 20th annual road safety report

The 20th annual Road Safety PIN Report by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) evaluates road safety performance across 31 countries for the 2006-2025 period. Data for Cyprus shows a 13.5% reduction in road fatalities between 2019 and 2025, ranking 12th in the EU27. However, Cyprus saw a 9.8% increase in road deaths in 2025 alone. The country's road fatality rate per capita reached 46 in 2025, compared to the EU27 average of 43, resulting in a drop from 14th to 16th place in EU rankings. Conversely, Cyprus achieved a 29.2% reduction in serious injuries between 2015 and 2025, marking the 7th best performance in the EU24. The report assesses progress toward the EU target of reducing road deaths and serious injuries by 50% between 2020 and 2030. It covers EU27 states along with Switzerland, Norway, Serbia, and the United Kingdom. This edition serves as a policy review and a benchmark for long-term safety improvements.
