Customs seizures at Deryneia crossing point
On June 21 and 22, 2026, customs officers at the Deryneia crossing point conducted a series of inspections resulting in the seizure of illicit goods. On June 21, officers stopped three vehicles driven by one Greek Cypriot and two foreign nationals, discovering various animal products brought in violation of the Green Line Regulation. The confiscated items included yogurt, milk, ayran, salami, chicken, and cheese, all of which are slated for destruction. In a separate incident on June 22, officers discovered 1,800 cigarettes and 225 grams of rolling tobacco hidden in the sliding roof of a vehicle. The tobacco lacked required health warnings and traceability codes, indicating it was duty-free. The driver was arrested, and the vehicle was confiscated. The individual was subsequently released after agreeing to an out-of-court settlement of 720 euros for the return of the vehicle.
