Cyprus veterinary services launch digital platform for foot-and-mouth disease movement permits

The Veterinary Services of Cyprus have announced the immediate launch of the Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Management Platform, accessible at https://fmd.moa.gov.cy. This digital tool replaces previous paper-based procedures for requesting movement permits for animals, animal products, and relevant professionals such as farmers, veterinarians, and animal handlers. The platform enables the electronic submission of applications for both nationwide transport of goods and specific travel within restricted zones. Authorities intend for this system to streamline the approval process and improve the efficiency of regulatory compliance. The platform also integrates a QR code verification system to assist authorities in checking permit validity at checkpoints and across the road network. This measure is intended to help enforce existing movement restrictions and limit the spread of foot-and-mouth disease. Previously, all permit applications were handled individually via manual, document-heavy processes.
