Public hospitals adjust operations for nationwide strike on June 24, 2026

On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, approximately 9,000 hourly-paid government workers across Cyprus are participating in a 24-hour strike. The State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) announced that public hospitals and health centers will operate with skeleton staff to prioritize patient safety and emergency cases. While Accident and Emergency Departments (TAEP) and inpatient care will continue normally, some scheduled appointments, tests, and non-urgent surgeries may face delays or rescheduling. Simultaneously, the Medical Association PASYKI issued a statement asserting that doctors will not accept any attempt to shift the consequences or administrative responsibilities of the strike onto them. PASYKI emphasized that physicians should not be expected to perform duties outside their defined roles to cover service gaps. The strike also affects other sectors, including the Department of Forests, the Fire Service, and lifeguard services, leading authorities to warn the public to exercise caution at beaches.
