Russian journalist Grigory Nekhoroshev dies in Latvia

Russian journalist Grigory Nekhoroshev, 69, was found dead at his home in Riga, Latvia. According to the Latvian news agency Delfi, initial reports suggest he died from poisoning after consuming wild mushrooms he had collected himself. Nekhoroshev, who lived in Latvia as a political refugee for eleven years, was previously the editor-in-chief of the Moskovsky Korrespondent newspaper. In 2008, he gained international attention after his newspaper published a report regarding the alleged relationship between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former gymnast Alina Kabaeva, which subsequently led to the newspaper's closure. Friends and associates reported that Nekhoroshev maintained a healthy lifestyle and expressed concerns about his safety due to his past reporting, which he believed had made him an adversary of the Kremlin. Latvian authorities have ordered an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
