Nicos Anastasiades responds to anti-corruption authority findings
Former President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades held a press conference to address findings from the Independent Authority Against Corruption concerning his decade-long administration. During the event, Anastasiades defended his record, denying allegations of corruption and criticizing the Authority's assessment of his governance. The political movement Alma-Citizens for Cyprus issued a statement accusing the former president of attempting to discredit state institutions when their findings challenge his legacy. Furthermore, the movement criticized the Democratic Rally (DISY) party for supporting its honorary president and dismissing the investigative outcomes. Alma argued that this support reflects a broader system of corruption within the party. The movement also noted that current President Nikos Christodoulides, a former political associate of Anastasiades, is a witness in the ongoing case. Alma reiterated its call for institutional reforms to ensure greater accountability and independence in corruption investigations.
