Board of peace to hold gaza reconstruction meeting in Cyprus
The Board of Peace, an international initiative established to oversee Gaza's post-war reconstruction under UN Resolution 2803, is scheduled to hold a meeting in Cyprus on June 30 and July 1. Government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed the event, clarifying that the Republic of Cyprus is acting only as a host and is not an organizer or co-organizer. The meeting aims to recalibrate the strategic approach after six months of limited progress in implementing the plan, which is partly based on proposals previously supported by Donald Trump. Attendees are expected to include representatives from the executive branch of the Board of Peace, the Palestinian-led committee for the administration of Gaza, and the office of UN high representative Nikolay Mladenov. While Cyprus attends such forums as an observer, some participants have requested official meetings with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos during their stay. Reports indicate that progress on the reconstruction plan has been hindered by regional tensions and stalled disarmament negotiations. The Palestinian technocratic committee remains based in Cairo, and significant donor funds have yet to be disbursed.
