Cyprus to host administrative arm of the Board of Peace for Gaza reconstruction summit
The administrative arm of the Board of Peace, established to oversee the post-war reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, will convene in Cyprus on June 30 and July 1. This initiative is based on a plan promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump and holds legitimacy under UN Security Council resolution 2803. The summit aims to recalibrate strategies for Gaza's transitional governance and reconstruction, which have faced delays due to funding shortages and regional instability, including the conflict between Israel and Iran. Cypriot government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed that Cyprus is not an organizer or co-organizer of the event but was selected by the Board as a suitable location. Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos is expected to hold private meetings with participating officials during their stay. The Board of Peace is coordinated by figures such as former UN envoy Nickolay Mladenov. While some media outlets reported conflicting information regarding official awareness of the event, the government has formally acknowledged the logistical facilitation of the summit.
