US-led Gaza Board of Peace to meet in Cyprus
Representatives of the US-led Gaza Board of Peace are scheduled to meet at a resort in Cyprus next week to recalibrate their post-war strategy for the Gaza Strip. The executive board members, along with representatives from the Palestinian-led National Committee for the Administration of Gaza and the office of High Representative Nikolay Mladenov, seek to address six months of limited progress. The initiative, established in January, aims to implement UN Resolution 2803 regarding governance, reconstruction, and security in the enclave. While some EU members joined the board as full participants, Cyprus is attending as an observer. Government sources in Cyprus confirmed the meeting location but emphasized that the Republic of Cyprus is not involved in organizing the event. During the visit, participants have requested meetings with the Cypriot Foreign Minister. Significant challenges persist, including the fact that the Palestinian technocrat committee remains based in Cairo rather than Gaza, and promised donor funds have yet to be disbursed due to ongoing disarmament negotiations.
