Court acquits actress Panagiota Vlanti in defamation lawsuit filed by Giorgos Kimoulis
The Athens Single-Member Misdemeanor Court has acquitted actress Panagiota Vlanti of defamation charges. The lawsuit was filed by actor and director Giorgos Kimoulis following interviews Vlanti gave in 2023. In these interviews, she alleged that Kimoulis had engaged in verbal and physical abuse toward his colleagues and argued that such behaviors should be reported. The prosecutor recommended acquittal, citing that Vlanti believed her statements were based on credible testimonies and a decision by the Hellenic Actors' Union (SEH). The court accepted the prosecutor's proposal, finding insufficient evidence to prove the intent required for a defamation conviction. During the proceedings, Vlanti was supported by fellow actresses Dora Chrysikou and Zeta Douka. While conflicting reports suggested the trial was ongoing, the court has now issued a final ruling on the matter.
