President Christodoulides addresses US-Cyprus strategic partnership
During a reception in Nicosia marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, President Nikos Christodoulides highlighted the strengthening of bilateral relations. He noted the launch of the Strategic Dialogue in October 2024 as a pivotal moment for cooperation in defense, energy, education, and innovation. The President highlighted unprecedented levels of security collaboration, including the 2024 Five-Year Defense Cooperation Roadmap and recent U.S. military program authorizations. Additionally, he emphasized the significant presence of American companies in Cyprus's Exclusive Economic Zone and announced that further positive investment news is expected by the end of June. Christodoulides reaffirmed Cyprus’s goal to join the U.S. Visa Waiver Program and thanked Washington for its consistent support regarding the Cyprus issue and regional stability. He also noted that reinforcing EU-U.S. relations remained a key priority during the Cypriot EU Presidency.
