Elections for deputy mayor of Aglantzia scheduled for June 28

On June 28, the Aglantzia municipality will hold elections for the position of deputy mayor, which became vacant following the election of the former officeholder as a member of parliament for DISY. The two candidates vying for the position are Andri Hatziandreou and Prokopis Prokopiou. Prokopiou is supported by DISY and DIKO. Meanwhile, Andri Hatziandreou has received endorsements from multiple political parties, including AKEL, DIPA, EDEK, the Ecologists' Movement, and the ALMA movement. The Ecologists' Movement supported Hatziandreou following a meeting of its Nicosia-Kyrenia provincial assembly on June 23, where the decision was passed with 42 votes in favor, one against, and one abstention. This support is based on a five-point memorandum of understanding focusing on administrative transparency, environmental protection of the Athalassa Forest Park, and the upgrading of local green spaces. The ALMA movement officially announced its support for Hatziandreou on June 24 after evaluating both candidates.
