New leadership elected for the OELMEK teachers' union in Cyprus

On June 25, 2026, the Pan-Cyprian Conference of General Representatives of the OELMEK teachers' union elected its new 21-member Central Administrative Council. Following the June 9 elections, where the 'Allagi' faction won 10 seats but failed to secure an absolute majority, a coalition of four smaller factions secured 11 seats to form the new Secretariat. Konstantinos Konstantinou was elected president of the organization for the next three-year term. The new leadership includes Kyriakos Matthaiou as vice president, Andreas Mavratsas as general secretary, Charalampos Christodoulou as treasurer, Stelios Koutsidis as organizational secretary, and Christos Patatas and Giannis Antoniadis as deputy secretary and deputy treasurer respectively. The remaining 14 members of the Central Administrative Council were also officially appointed. This leadership change marks a shift in internal union politics, ending the sole dominance of the leading faction.
