OELMEK to elect new leadership following teacher union elections

On Thursday, June 25, 2026, the OELMEK teachers' union will hold its pan-Cypriot conference of general representatives in Nicosia to elect the 21 members of the new Central Administrative Council. The 180 representatives will also review the organization's financial reports for the period ending December 31, 2025. Following the selection of the 21 council members, the body must elect a seven-member secretariat, which requires an absolute majority of 11 votes. According to the June 9 election results, the movement 'Allagi' holds 10 seats, 'Proodeftiki' holds 6, 'DIKI' holds 3, while 'Anexartiti Foni Ekpaideftikon' and 'Nea Kinisi' each hold one seat. Since no single faction reached the 11-seat threshold, 'Allagi' requires the support of at least one other movement to secure the presidency. Alternatively, all other factions could form a coalition to elect their own representative to the leadership. This process will determine the union's trajectory for the next three-year term.
