Dispute between former President Nicos Anastasiades and journalist Makarios Drousiotis regarding corruption report

Following the release of a summary of the Independent Authority Against Corruption's report, former President Nicos Anastasiades and journalist Makarios Drousiotis have expressed conflicting interpretations of the findings. Nicos Anastasiades stated that the Authority rejected the majority of claims made in Drousiotis’s book, 'Kratos Mafia,' as unsubstantiated and dismissed the author as unreliable. Conversely, Makarios Drousiotis argues that the report, which spans 3,000 pages but was released only in summary, validates allegations made in his books 'Kratos Mafia' (2022) and 'I Symmoria' (2020). The Authority's investigation, which lasted two years, reportedly cites evidence of influence peddling, abuse of power, or attempted criminal acts in seven specific instances. While Anastasiades focuses on the exoneration regarding many chapters, the report’s findings remain a subject of intense public and political debate. Drousiotis further alleges that the Legal Service and the Police have engaged in a six-year cover-up of these issues. The conflicting narratives highlight a major divide between the former administration’s defense and the journalist’s assertions regarding official misconduct.
