Transition of Cyprus terrestrial television to DVB-T2 standard
Effective July 1, Cyprus will transition its terrestrial television broadcasting from the Velister platform to the DVB-T2 standard. This upgrade aims to improve audio and visual quality and optimize the frequency spectrum in line with modern European standards. Television channels will be broadcast on new frequencies, specifically 35 and 48. Subscribers to Cytavision, Cablenet, and Primetel services are unaffected by this change. However, viewers using terrestrial antennas must verify if their equipment is compatible with DVB-T2. Owners of incompatible devices will need to purchase an external decoder, estimated at €25–€35, or upgrade their television set. Most televisions purchased within the last ten years are expected to be compatible with the new system. A manual channel rescan is required for users with compatible hardware.
