Cyprus Medical Council suspends two doctors for six years
On June 22, 2026, the Cyprus Medical Disciplinary Council issued a decision to suspend the medical licenses of Alevtina Kuzitseva Markou and Victoria Kuzitseva Christodoulou for a period of six years. The suspension, which runs until June 22, 2032, follows the doctors' submission of inaccurate information to the Cyprus Medical Council regarding their postgraduate training. The practitioners claimed to have completed continuous four-year specialized training at Gomel State Medical University in Belarus, which the Council determined did not reflect the truth. The Council categorized this act as a serious professional misconduct rather than a mere procedural error. While the authenticity of the training certificates themselves was not disputed, the Council found the doctors intentionally misrepresented the facts to obtain recognition for general medicine. The Medical Council of Cyprus had previously revoked their specialty titles in a decision upheld by the courts. In determining the penalty, the Disciplinary Council considered mitigating factors, including the doctors' clean criminal and disciplinary records. However, it emphasized that the misconduct compromised the integrity of the medical recognition process and public trust.
