Nicosia General Hospital implements CORI robotic surgery system

The State Health Services Organisation (OKYpY) has announced the installation of the CORI Robotic-Assisted Surgery system by Smith+Nephew at the Nicosia General Hospital. This upgrade integrates advanced technology into the public healthcare system to support the hospital's Orthopaedic Clinic. The new system is designed for partial and total knee replacements, revision knee surgeries, and hip arthroplasties. Surgeons utilize real-time digital mapping, motion sensors, and intraoperative data to ensure high-precision implant placement and ligament balance. A key feature of the CORI platform is its ability to perform anatomical mapping without the need for preoperative CT or MRI scans, which reduces patient radiation exposure. The implementation is intended to modernize local medical care, allowing patients to receive specialized surgery within Cyprus rather than seeking treatment abroad. The surgeon maintains full control during the procedure, while the robotic system provides guidance to improve alignment and joint stability. This initiative is expected to reduce recovery times and minimize the need for repeat operations.
