UK Cypriot diaspora launches campaign for Cyprus negotiations

The National Federation of Cypriots in the United Kingdom has launched the #HandsOffCyprus campaign, sending thousands of emails to British Members of Parliament. This initiative, occurring as of June 24, 2026, marks the 52nd anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the ongoing occupation of part of the island. Federation President Christos Karaolis stated that the campaign has reached over 50% of the members of the House of Commons. The primary goal is to maintain the Cyprus issue as a priority on the UK political agenda. The campaign urges the British government to pressure Turkey to resume negotiations based on the United Nations framework, international law, and the European Union acquis. Meanwhile, Maria Angela Holguin, the United Nations Secretary-General’s envoy on Cyprus, has been conducting separate meetings with regional stakeholders to discuss a potential return to formal talks. The Federation continues to encourage the Cypriot diaspora to use their online platform to lobby local representatives for a resolution to the conflict.
