UN representative to brief Security Council on Cyprus in July
Colin Stewart, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), is scheduled to brief the UN Security Council in New York during the second week of July. According to reports from the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), the session will be conducted behind closed doors to discuss the situation in Cyprus. While the specific dates for the meetings have not yet been announced, the Security Council is set to review the reports submitted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. These reports cover his Good Offices mission concerning the Cyprus problem and the overall operations of UNFICYP. The council will hold these sessions later in July to evaluate progress and the status of the peacekeeping mission. All briefings and subsequent discussions are part of the routine diplomatic process regarding the oversight of the Cypriot peace process.
