Turkish Cypriot political leaders comment on stalled Cyprus negotiations

Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman and former negotiator Kudret Ozersay have expressed skepticism regarding the current status of the Cyprus problem. Erhurman characterized recent media reports concerning the negotiations as baseless and intended to provoke the Turkish Cypriot side. He emphasized that no agreement would be implemented without the consent of the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkey. Meanwhile, Kudret Ozersay, leader of the People's Party, argued that there is currently no concrete negotiation process in place. Ozersay criticized the planning of an expanded meeting, labeling it as a premature move driven by domestic political agendas. He suggested that President Nikos Christodoulides is seeking to restart negotiations primarily to demonstrate activity ahead of the 2028 presidential elections. Both figures cautioned against creating unrealistic expectations for a comprehensive settlement that may not be supported by a viable framework.
