Vehicle fire causes brush blaze between Malia and Dora

On Wednesday evening, June 24, a vehicle caught fire while traveling on the road between the villages of Malia and Dora in the Limassol region. The driver managed to exit the vehicle safely before the flames spread to dry grass and brush. The fire service received the report at 19:21 and deployed six firefighting teams to the scene. A crisis center was activated at the headquarters in Nicosia, with operations directed by Fire Chief Nikos Longinos. Assistance was provided by the Forestry Department, Civil Defense, and volunteers, while an excavator was used to create firebreaks. The fire was brought under control around 20:30, after burning approximately 1.5 hectares of land and several trees. No injuries or structural damages to houses were reported. Fire crews remained on-site overnight to monitor for potential flare-ups as the Fire Service launched an investigation into the cause of the vehicle fire.
