Diko submits legislative proposals to link natural gas wealth with pensions
On Thursday, the Democratic Party (DIKO) in Cyprus submitted two legislative proposals to the House of Representatives. Led by party president Nikolas Papadopoulos, the initiative aims to utilize revenue from the country's national energy resources to support the pension system. Specifically, the proposals involve amendments to the Fiscal Responsibility and Fiscal Framework Law and the National Investment Fund and Cyprus Investment Management Organization Law. These legislative acts are designed to function complementarily to ensure the long-term sustainability of the social insurance fund. By leveraging the National Investment Fund, the party seeks to provide a institutional mechanism for redistributing wealth to pensioners. Nikolas Papadopoulos stated that this measure fulfills a key campaign promise and urged other political parties to support the initiative. The goal is to ensure the dignity of retirees by providing a sustainable source of funding for social security.
