YKAN reports drug seizure statistics for the first half of 2026
The Cyprus Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) has released its performance report for the first half of 2026. Data indicates a significant increase in the volume of specific illicit substances seized compared to the same period in 2025. Cocaine seizures rose by over 130%, from 30.2 kg to 71.5 kg. Methamphetamine seizures increased nearly fivefold, rising from 461 grams to over 2.3 kg. Cannabis resin saw a dramatic surge from 583 grams to over 47.5 kg, remaining the most prevalent drug. Law enforcement recorded 539 drug-related criminal cases by June 22, compared to 562 cases in the same period of 2025. Authorities also reported the first-time detection of 1.5 kg of the synthetic cannabinoid MDMB-4EN-PINACA, along with 993 A4 paper sheets soaked in the substance. Additionally, 1,121 tablets of Captagon were seized for the first time in the region.
