Nicosia police investigate phishing scam targeting Tax Department

The Nicosia Police have received a report regarding an ongoing online scam involving fraudulent emails impersonating the Cyprus Tax Department. In the scam, victims receive an email claiming they are eligible for a tax refund and are asked to click a link to verify their personal information. The link redirects users to a fake website designed to mimic the official portal of the Tax Department. A citizen alerted the authorities after recognizing the phishing attempt before any financial loss occurred. The Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) has opened a case into the matter. Authorities emphasize that no state or tax authority will request sensitive banking credentials or codes via email. The police advise the public to ignore such messages, verify the sender's email address, and only rely on official state websites for information.
