British woman arrested at Paphos airport for smuggling cigarettes

On June 24, 2026, customs officers at Paphos International Airport intercepted a British national attempting to travel to Liverpool, United Kingdom. Following an intelligence report, authorities inspected her luggage and discovered a large quantity of untaxed cigarettes. The seized items included 46 cartons of 200 cigarettes each and 40 packs of 20 cigarettes each. These tobacco products lacked the mandatory health warnings in Greek and Turkish, as well as the required security features and traceability codes, indicating they were smuggled. The suspect was arrested on flagrante delicto charges, and her luggage was confiscated.
