British citizens increasingly move to Cyprus for lifestyle and business reasons
A British Council survey indicates that 72% of young adults aged 18 to 30 in the United Kingdom are considering living and working abroad. Key factors driving this interest include the high cost of living, poor weather, childcare expenses, and a lack of work-life balance. Liam Quirk, 28, and his partner, Melanie, 26, moved from Liverpool to Paphos in May 2025 to seek a better quality of life. Quirk, who founded the digital marketing firm Quirky Digital in 2020 during the pandemic, opted for remote work after citing a worsened business environment in the UK following Brexit. The couple’s transition highlights a broader trend of professionals leveraging remote work capabilities to relocate to more favorable climates. His decision was reinforced during a 2023 technology conference in Cyprus, leading to his permanent relocation. Reports suggest that lifestyle factors, such as the island's 300 days of annual sunshine, significantly influence these relocation choices.
