Artist Philippos Yapanis reports vandalism and theft of sculptures in Fasoula
Cypriot sculptor Philippos Yapanis has reported a series of thefts and acts of vandalism against his works in the village of Fasoula, Limassol. On Thursday morning, his sculpture titled 'Sferovolos', which was donated to the community 20 years ago, was vandalized in the local church courtyard. The artist stated that the damage to this piece is valued at approximately 30,000 euros. Additionally, he reported the theft of his 'Poulia' (Birds) sculpture from his property, which was later recovered discarded near a fence with three birds missing. Copper sheets intended for casting were also reported stolen. While Yapanis initially indicated two men and a woman were responsible for the vandalism, he has publicly demanded state authorities take action, criticizing the perceived lack of justice. The artist expressed frustration regarding the security situation in the region and called for intervention from officials. Local residents and the Fasoula Hunting Association have offered their support to the artist following the incidents.
