53-year-old man arrested in Belgium for 2017 cyber fraud
A 53-year-old man has been extradited from Belgium to Cyprus after being arrested in April on national and European warrants. The suspect is accused of orchestrating a cyber fraud scheme in November 2017 targeting a company based in Limassol. The victim company had ordered products from a European supplier and transferred over 65,000 euros to a bank account provided via email. Investigations revealed that the communication between the two companies was intercepted, leading the funds to be diverted to an illicit foreign account. Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) officers escorted the suspect back to Cyprus early this morning. He is scheduled to appear before the Limassol District Court to face a remand hearing. The police investigation into the case is ongoing.
