Police conclude investigation into former EDEK president Marinos Sizopoulos
The Cyprus Police have completed their investigation into the case involving Marinos Sizopoulos, the former president of the EDEK party, known as the TAXAN case. Police spokesperson Byron Byronos confirmed that the investigative file, which follows a report from the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority published on September 12, 2025, will be forwarded to the Legal Service in the coming days. The inquiry, which intensified after the Supreme Court lifted Sizopoulos's parliamentary immunity in March 2025, included testimonies from the former official and other involved parties. While the police spokesperson declined to provide specific details on potential criminal charges, media reports suggest the case involves allegations of fraud, forgery, and conspiracy to defraud. These allegations stem from findings by Anti-Corruption Authority inspectors regarding the signing and submission of a sales contract to a bank. Previously, in 2022, the Legal Service had cleared the case of criminal offenses after an initial police investigation, but the matter was reopened following a complaint from a former member of parliament. The Legal Service will now review the evidence to decide whether to initiate criminal proceedings or archive the case.
