Police investigate sudden death of one-year-old infant in Limassol

A 12-month-old infant, Charalambos Christofi, died on the night of Thursday, June 25, at the Limassol General Hospital. The child had shown symptoms of malaise and fever starting on June 23, for which parents sought care from a private pediatrician who diagnosed gastroenteritis and prescribed medication. On Thursday night, the father rushed the child to the hospital in critical condition, where the infant arrived unresponsive and cyanotic. Despite medical efforts to resuscitate him, the baby passed away around 11:30 PM. A forensic autopsy was performed by Dr. Angeliki Papetta on June 26, but the exact cause of death remains inconclusive, pending further laboratory, genetic, and microbiological tests. The Limassol police have launched an investigation into the sudden death as a procedural matter, noting that no formal complaint has been filed by the family against any medical professionals. The funeral is scheduled for today at the Archangel Michael Church in Limassol, with the family requesting attendees to wear white and donate to the 'Mikroi Iroes' organization.
