Two children found dead in a locked vehicle in Xylofagou
On Sunday, June 28, two brothers aged 8 and 10 from Bulgaria were found dead in a locked car outside their home in the village of Xylofagou, located within the British Sovereign Base Area of Dhekelia. The children were visiting Cyprus from Bulgaria for their vacation. Emergency services and ambulances arrived at the scene, but the children were already deceased. The British Bases Police have arrested the father and his partner, the stepmother, as suspects for potential neglect, and they are expected to appear in Dhekelia court to face detention orders. While initial indications from authorities suggest the possibility of asphyxiation, no official cause of death has been confirmed pending forensic examinations. Some reports mention that the children showed signs of burns, and investigations are currently exploring how they became trapped inside the vehicle. The scene remains cordoned off while police collect evidence and conduct interviews. The biological mother of the children reportedly resides in Bulgaria.
