50-year-old man arrested after hostage situation in Larissa

A 50-year-old man was arrested in Larissa, Greece, after holding his former spouse hostage in her home. The perpetrator breached existing restraining orders to enter the property. During the incident, he held an axe and a container of flammable liquid, threatening to set the house on fire. The man broadcast a 41-minute video of the ordeal live on social media. Greek police, including negotiators, the fire department, and emergency medical services, were deployed to the scene. Giannis Thelouras, secretary of the Larissa Police Union, was called to assist and successfully convinced the perpetrator to surrender. No injuries were reported during the operation. The suspect is currently in custody awaiting trial at the local Magistrate Court, where protective measures for the victim were requested.
