Hellenic Gaming Commission files lawsuit against 18 influencers for illegal gambling promotion

The Hellenic Gaming Commission (EEEP) has filed a legal complaint with the Athens Prosecutor's Office against 18 Greek influencers. These individuals are accused of promoting illegal and unlicensed gambling websites via their Instagram accounts. According to EEEP president Antonis Bartholomaios, these cases have been documented as part of an effort to combat unauthorized online betting. While previously many influencers avoided prosecution by deleting promotional content, a new legislative framework introduced by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance is set to change this. The new law imposes administrative fines ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 euros for those who advertise unlicensed gaming sites. Some reports indicate these influencers collectively reach over 3 million followers. The legislation was recently passed by the Greek Parliament and is expected to take effect immediately.
