Drones to monitor traffic on Cyprus highways from June 29 to July 9, 2026
The Cyprus Department of Public Works has announced that unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) will conduct operational flights to collect traffic data. These operations are scheduled to take place between June 29 and July 9, 2026, during the hours of 09:30 and 17:00. The monitored sections include the Nicosia-Limassol highway from Alampra exit to Kornos exit, the Nicosia-Larnaca highway from Lympia exit to Rizoelia junction, and the Larnaca Airport-Ayia Napa highway from Rizoelia junction to Xylofagou exit. The flights will be conducted parallel to the highways in the Nicosia, Larnaca, and Famagusta districts, specifically over the slopes and outside the main traffic lanes. The authorities confirmed that all collected data will be processed in strict compliance with the EU Regulation 2016/679 regarding the protection of personal data. The measure aims to gather necessary traffic information for infrastructure assessment purposes. No disruption to regular vehicle traffic flow is expected during these operations.
