Cyprus presents disability strategy in easy-to-read format

The Cypriot Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare has officially presented the Revised National Strategy and Action Plan on Disability 2024-2028 in an accessible 'easy-to-read' format. The initiative, announced at a conference at the Journalistic House, was carried out by the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with the Committee for the Protection of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and the organization Noesi.gr. The goal of this version is to provide clear, simplified information to people with intellectual disabilities and those facing linguistic or cognitive barriers regarding their rights and state policies. Deputy Minister Klea Hatzistefanou-Papaellina stated that this project highlights that accessibility extends beyond physical infrastructure to include equal access to information. The 2024-2028 strategy covers critical areas including education, employment, independent living, health, and social participation. The government intends for this initiative to serve as a model for future integration of easy-to-read formats into state documents and public services to ensure full compliance with UN conventions.
