Cypriot judokas compete at the Qingdao Grand Prix

Cypriot judoka Petros Christodoulides represented Cyprus at the Qingdao Grand Prix in China, competing in the -66kg weight category. In the tournament, he defeated Russian athlete Islam Babatov in the Golden Score before being eliminated by the two-time Olympic and world champion Hifumi Abe of Japan. Sofia Asvesta also competed in the -52kg category but was defeated by Gabriela Conceicao of Brazil. The delegation to Qingdao included other Cypriot athletes such as Zanet Michaelidou, Giorgos Krousaniotakis, and Ioannis Antoniou. Following his participation in the Mongolia Grand Slam and the current event, Christodoulides has secured a total of 160 points toward Olympic qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Games. His performance in both tournaments marks the beginning of a new Olympic cycle. The Qingdao event hosted 508 athletes from 58 nations.
