Larnaca to host the first state drama school in Cyprus

The Municipality of Larnaca and the Cyprus Theatre Organization (THOK) have announced the establishment of the first state drama school in Cyprus, titled the School of Theatre Studies and European Programs. A formal Memorandum of Cooperation will be signed on July 3, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at the Creative Engagement Center in Salina Park. The school is expected to be housed in the building of the former Livadia Municipality, where renovations will include classrooms and a 160-seat performance hall. The initiative is part of a broader strategy for the decentralization of state theater, as outlined by THOK president Pantelis Voutouris in January 2025. Planned curriculum details include postgraduate programs in acting, directing, improvisation, and theatrical writing. Additionally, the project is linked to the renovation of the Skala Theatre, which has been deemed dangerous and requires structural repairs estimated at 3.5 million euros. The building must be completed by 2029 to align with the city's schedule as the 2030 European Capital of Culture.
