Ireland assumes the rotating presidency of the council of the European Union
On July 1, Ireland will assume the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, succeeding Cyprus. This marks Ireland’s eighth term in the position. Prime Minister Micheál Martin outlined the core objectives of the Irish Presidency, which focus on strengthening European competitiveness. The program centers on the 'One Europe, One Market' roadmap. Key initiatives include simplifying regulatory rules, enhancing the integrated single market, and promoting trade. Additionally, the government aims to address energy prices, pursue decarbonization, and advance digital and AI transformation. Ireland intends to uphold EU values, including the rule of law and human rights, while supporting SMEs and economic growth across the union.
