Recent seismic activity reported in the Hindu Kush region and Pakistan
Seismic activity has been reported in the Hindu Kush region and parts of Pakistan with varying data provided by monitoring agencies. One event in the Hindu Kush was reported by the EMSC as a magnitude 6.0 earthquake at a depth of 100 km, while the USGS estimated the magnitude at 6.1 with a depth of 208 km. This tremor was felt in Kabul and northern Pakistan, causing panic among residents in the Swat region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Separately, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake was reported in Pakistan on Saturday, with the EMSC citing a depth of 35 km. Another report locates the epicenter of this 5.4 magnitude event 63 km north-northeast of Barkhan at a depth of 10 km. Authorities have noted that no significant damage or injuries have been reported following the 5.4 magnitude event. Monitoring of aftershocks remains ongoing in the affected areas.
