Rescue operation conducted off the coast of Zygi
On June 28, 2026, at 05:30, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) initiated the national 'Nearchos' search and rescue plan following a report of a person in distress at sea near Zygi, Larnaca. Multiple agencies were mobilized for the operation, including high-speed boats from the Port and Marine Police and the Underwater Demolitions Unit of the National Guard, as well as a police helicopter and an ambulance service. The individual was located and successfully recovered by a Port and Marine Police vessel. Upon rescue, the survivor was reported to be in good physical condition. The person was subsequently handed over to an ambulance team at the Zygi fishing shelter. The rescuee was transported for preventive medical examinations as a precautionary measure. The mission was successfully concluded in the early hours of the morning.
