Search and rescue operation conducted near Zygi

On June 28, 2026, at 05:30, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) activated the national search and rescue plan 'Nearchos' in response to a maritime emergency. The incident took place in the sea area off Zygi, Larnaca. The emergency operation involved rapid response vessels from the Port and Marine Police and the Underwater Demolition Unit of the National Guard. Additionally, a helicopter from the Police Aviation Unit and an ambulance from the Ambulance Service were deployed to the scene. The individual in distress was successfully recovered by a Port and Marine Police vessel. The rescued person was found to be in good physical condition. Following the recovery, the individual was transported to the fishing shelter in Zygi and handed over to the ambulance staff for further medical attention.
