Escalating cross-border strikes result in high civilian casualties

A massive Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv killed at least 30 people and injured over 90, marking the city's deadliest strike this year. Russian authorities claimed the attack targeted military, energy, and aviation infrastructure in retaliation for Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian territory. Simultaneously, Ukrainian strikes on the Russian-controlled Crimea region resulted in one death and two injuries, while attacks on Russian border regions, including Belgorod and Bryansk, killed two people. In the occupied Zaporizhzhia region, a strike on a market in Tokmak reportedly killed five people. Separately, Russian strikes on Ukrainian regions of Sumy and Kryvyi Rih caused further casualties, including four deaths in Romny and seven injuries in Kryvyi Rih. Additionally, an attack on a coal mine in eastern Ukraine left one dead and five injured, forcing a suspension of operations. Ukrainian officials denied Russian claims regarding the capture of the city of Kostiantynivka.
