Large-scale Russian missile and drone attacks strike Kyiv and across Ukraine

Overnight, Russia launched a significant wave of missile and drone attacks targeting Kyiv and multiple other regions across Ukraine. Ukrainian military officials stated that 74 missiles and 496 drones were launched, with air defenses neutralizing 48 missiles and 476 drones. The strikes caused extensive damage to residential buildings, including the partial collapse of a multi-storey apartment complex in Kyiv, and infrastructure. Casualty reports remain fluid, with conflicting numbers ranging from 10 to 17 deaths and dozens of injuries reported in the capital. Additional strikes were documented in Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, leading to further fatalities and damage. The Russian Defence Ministry claimed the strikes targeted military, energy, and airport infrastructure as retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian soil. Ukrainian authorities have urged international partners to accelerate the delivery of advanced air defense systems to protect civilian areas.
