Disy to run its own candidate for the 2028 presidential elections
Annita Demetriou, president of the Democratic Rally (Disy) party, confirmed that her party will nominate its own candidate for the 2028 presidential elections. During an interview with the Politis newspaper, she explicitly stated that Disy would not support incumbent President Nikos Christodoulides. Demetriou emphasized that the party remains in opposition and cautioned against viewing the recent parliamentary results as a definitive precursor to the 2028 election cycle. Regarding the selection process, she clarified that the candidate will be chosen by the party base in accordance with updated statutes. She also denied that any discussions have occurred regarding potential candidates or political deals with the Diko party. The party leader reiterated that her current focus is on legislative reforms and social challenges rather than immediate presidential campaigning. Demetriou, who was re-elected as President of the House of Representatives with support from Disy, Diko, and Direct Democracy, firmly stated that her priority remains parliamentary work.
