House President Annita Demetriou visits Athens for high-level meetings

On Tuesday, President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Annita Demetriou, held a series of meetings in Athens with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and representatives of Greek political parties including PASOK, SYRIZA, and KKE. Prime Minister Mitsotakis congratulated Demetriou on her re-election and praised the successful conclusion of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. Discussions focused on the current Cyprus issue, with both parties emphasizing the necessity of maintaining close coordination between Athens and Nicosia during this critical diplomatic juncture. Demetriou highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, particularly through closer collaboration between parliamentary committees regarding defense, security, and European affairs. Regarding the Cyprus dispute, both sides agreed on the importance of adhering to UN resolutions and pursuing diplomatic efforts to reach a fair and viable solution. Demetriou reiterated the need to address the issue of missing persons and the withdrawal of Turkish troops. She expressed gratitude for Greece's ongoing support, characterizing the country as Cyprus's strongest brotherly ally.
